The role of audio in the automotive industry has changed significantly.
The requirements for electronics and software in terms of connectivity and autonomous driving
pose a challenge for automotive manufacturers and suppliers.
In addition new fields of development have emerged, sound systems are not longer just to be seen as
infotainment. They are used to reproduce the sound of the car and to support the noise cancelation.
Due to the elimination of the combustion engine, the noise generation of electrical vehicles and
hybrid cars in electrical operation in the speed range up to 20 Km/h is barely noticeable.
To protect vulnerable road users, AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems) are prescribed.
AVAS Systems are designed to generate vehicle warning sounds or reproduce combustion engine sound and alert pedestrians when approaching an electric drive vehicle.
This regulation applies to full battery electric (BEVs), hybrid (HEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
Gemmy Electronics is currently working innovatively on technical solutions for such systems in order not only to meet legal requirements but rather as a multifunctional sound generator e.g. can be used for horn, alarm or marten protection.
